What PNG To ICO does

PNG To ICO turns a PNG, JPG, or WebP image into a Windows icon file that holds several sizes.

Transparency is kept, and a wide or tall image is centered on a square instead of being cropped or stretched.

How to use it

  1. Choose one or more images.
  2. Tick the icon sizes you want.
  3. Check the previews, then download the ICO.

Formats and limits

  • Opens PNG, JPG, and WebP files. Downloads one ICO per image, named after the input, such as logo.ico.
  • Several images download together as a zip of ICO files.
  • Sizes from 16 to 256 pixels. Each size is stored as a PNG inside the ICO, which Windows Vista and later read.

Settings explained

Icon sizes
16, 24, 32, 48, 64, 128, and 256 pixels. 16, 32, 48, and 256 are ticked to start. At least one is needed.

FAQ

Is transparency kept?

Yes. Transparent and partly transparent pixels stay that way in every size. JPG has no transparency, so a JPG icon is opaque.

What happens to a wide or tall image?

Icons are square. The image keeps its shape and is centered, with transparent space added on the short sides.

How large should the source image be?

At least as large as the biggest size you tick, such as 256x256. A smaller image is scaled up and can look soft, and the log says so.
