GIF Sparkles and Particles

Add animated sparkles, snow, confetti, hearts, and more over a GIF or a picture.

Pick sparkles, glitter, snow, rain, confetti, hearts, stars, bubbles, or embers, and set their density, size, speed, and color, over the whole GIF or inside a box. Particles loop cleanly, a still picture can play for a set length, and the preview matches the download.

What GIF Sparkles and Particles does

GIF Sparkles and Particles adds animated particles over a GIF or a still picture: sparkles, glitter, snow, rain, confetti, hearts, stars, bubbles, or embers. Set how many there are, how big, how fast, and their color, over the whole picture or inside a box you place.

Particles move a whole number of times per loop, so they loop cleanly with the GIF. Their placement comes from a seed number, so the download looks exactly like the preview.

How to use it

  1. Select Choose GIF or Image and pick a file, or drop one on the file row.
  2. Pick the Particles and set Density, Size, and Speed.
  3. Keep a fixed color or tick Rainbow colors.
  4. Under Area, keep The whole GIF or pick A box and place it in Particle Area. For a still picture or a short GIF, set a Length.
  5. Press Shuffle for a new arrangement, set Loop, and select Download GIF.

Formats and limits

  • Input: a GIF, or a still picture such as PNG, JPG, or WebP. A still picture starts with a set length of 3 seconds.
  • Output: a GIF named after the original with the particle type added, such as cat-snow.gif.
  • With The GIF's own length, particles are drawn on each of the GIF's frames with its own timing. With Set a length, the GIF repeats its frames to fill 1 to 10 seconds at 20 frames per second.
  • The frames times the width times the height has to stay under 60 million pixels.
  • Each frame holds up to 256 colors, and particle edges over transparent areas become either solid or clear.

Settings explained

Particles
Sparkles, glitter, and stars twinkle in place. Snow, rain, and confetti fall. Hearts, bubbles, and embers rise, and embers fade as they go.
Density
How many particles, from 0 to 100%. The count also grows with the size of the area.
Size
The base size in pixels, from 2 to 48. Each particle is between half and one and a half times that.
Speed
How many times each particle crosses the area or twinkles per loop, from 1 to 6. Some particles go twice as fast for variety.
Rainbow colors and Particle color
Rainbow gives each particle its own color; otherwise all use Particle color. Each particle type remembers its own color.
Area
The whole GIF, or a box you move and resize in Particle Area. Particles stay inside it.
Seed and Shuffle
The seed decides where particles start. The same seed gives the same result; Shuffle picks a new one.
Loop
Forever, Once, or a set number of plays. It starts at the setting of the GIF.

Privacy

Particles are drawn in this tab, and the GIF is encoded in a Web Worker, a background thread of the same page. Nothing is uploaded, and the file is only written when you select Download GIF.

FAQ

Why does the download look the same as the preview?

Every particle is placed from the seed number, so the same settings always draw the same frames.

Why is the new GIF larger?

Moving particles change pixels in every frame, which GIF compresses less well. Fewer or smaller particles, or GIF Optimizer, help.

Can particles appear only for part of the GIF?

Not in this tool. GIF Cutter can split the GIF so you can decorate one part, and GIF Joiner can put the parts back together.
