Why I built this

Every time I needed to do a small task, like change a file's format or trim a video, the software for it needed a monthly fee or paid plan. Those are small jobs. They shouldn't cost that much.

I'm a developer, so I started building my own tools instead. Lambda Guru is where they live now, and they're free for anyone who needs them.

Some of them came from years of building Angular and TypeScript apps for work. Others came out of side projects, like my Pip-Boy tools over at pip-boy.com, where I needed something and ended up building it myself.

I'm not done. More tools are on the way, and the ones already here keep getting better as I find things to fix.

I also build small computers and MicroPython projects. The Projects pages cover the hardware, code, and setup behind those builds.

How the tools are built

Everything runs in your browser, on your own device. Nothing you open gets uploaded to me or to anyone else.

• The site itself is an Angular and TypeScript app.
• The image and SVG tools use the canvas and image features your browser already has.
• Most of the audio, GIF, and video tools use FFmpeg, compiled to WebAssembly so it can run right in the page.
• Every tool page has a guide under it that covers the formats, settings, and limits.
• The open source parts I use are credited on the Licenses page.
