Who is behind Lambda Guru

I'm Cody Tolene, a senior full-stack software engineer based in Wisconsin. Lambda Guru is the public home for the tools, hardware projects, notes, and experiments that grew out of both professional software work and the things I keep building on the side.

The point of the site is not to act like a generic content hub. It exists so the work has one place to live, improve, and connect together: practical browser tools, device-focused projects, honest writing about development, and the products that come out of that process.

Why Lambda Guru exists

As the projects grew, rebuilding the same setup in different places stopped making sense. Lambda Guru became the hub where everything could share a foundation, from media tools and device utilities to hardware notes and longer writing about what was learned along the way.

That structure also reflects how the work actually happens. Some of it comes directly from years of building Angular and TypeScript applications professionally. Some of it comes from personal projects around Pip-Boy tooling, hardware experiments, and utilities that solve a real problem I ran into myself.

The result is a site that is meant to be useful first. It is where I can publish free tools, document the reasoning behind them, keep improving the projects over time, and support that work without turning the site into generic filler.

Experience behind the work

The public site is backed by the same engineering habits used on production software teams.

  • 18+ years building and maintaining production web applications.
  • Deepest experience in modern Angular, TypeScript, integration work, and front-end architecture.
  • Shipped SPAs, APIs, and tooling backed by ASP.NET Core, Node/Express, SQL, and Firebase.
  • Regular focus on safer releases through CI/CD, Docker, Cypress, and repeatable delivery workflows.

How I approach building

The same patterns show up on this site because they work in real software projects too.

  • Clarify goals, constraints, and the definition of done up front.
  • Prefer stable, readable patterns over cleverness.
  • Ship in small, reviewable changes that keep risk low.
  • Use docs, tests, and checks to keep improvements durable.

What you will find on the site

Lambda Guru is intentionally broad, but the sections connect back to the same body of work.

  • Software tools for audio, video, image, and device workflows.
  • Hardware projects, prototypes, and implementation notes.
  • Blog posts about career shifts, lessons learned, and project arcs.
  • Store items tied to the projects and builds documented here.

Why the writing is personal

The blog is meant to document real tradeoffs, not just summarize topics at a distance.

A lot of the writing here comes directly from lived experience: building a web development career, keeping side projects alive, navigating uncertainty, and turning scattered experiments into something coherent enough to share publicly.

That is why the site mixes engineering, hardware, and long-form writing instead of pretending they are unrelated. The overlap is the point.
