What Audio Cutter does

Audio Cutter keeps one continuous section of a single audio file and saves it as a new, shorter file. You mark the section on a waveform, listen to it, and export only that stretch.

It opens one recording at a time and never alters the original. Everything outside the two handles is left out of the saved copy.

How to use it

  1. Select Choose Audio and pick a file. Its waveform appears under Waveform Preview.
  2. Drag the green Start handle and the orange End handle to frame the part you want. The selected length is shown beside the playback buttons.
  3. Select Play to hear the selection. It plays from the playhead when that sits inside the range, otherwise from the Start handle, and halts at the End handle.
  4. Drag the playhead handle to jump to a moment. Pause holds your place, Stop returns to the Start handle, and Reset brings back the full length.
  5. Each handle also works from the keyboard. Tab to it, then use the arrow keys to move it by one second, Shift and an arrow key for a tenth of a second, Page Up and Page Down for ten seconds, or Home and End to jump to its limit.
  6. Choose a type from Save as, check Trim Details, then select Save.

Formats and limits

  • Opens MP3, WAV, M4A, AAC, FLAC, OGG, OPUS, WMA, AIF, AIFF, ALAC, or AC3.
  • Saves as MP3, WAV, AAC, M4A, FLAC, OGG, OPUS, AC3, or AIFF, using the original name with -trimmed added.
  • The kept section is re-encoded, so the result is never a byte-for-byte slice of the source, even when the type stays the same.
  • If your browser cannot decode a file for the waveform, the tool converts it internally and tries again. Listening still relies on what your browser's own player supports.
  • Save stays disabled until the selection is shorter than the whole file.

Privacy

Your browser decodes the recording to draw the waveform, and the cut itself is made by an FFmpeg engine that the tab downloads from the jsDelivr CDN the first time you choose a file, or from this site if the CDN cannot be reached. The audio is never transmitted anywhere, and the trimmed copy goes straight from memory to your device.

FAQ

Can I remove a section from the middle?

Not in one step, since the tool keeps a single range. Save the part before the unwanted stretch and the part after it as two files, then put them back together with Audio Joiner.

How accurate is Estimated Saved Size?

It is a rough figure based on the selection length and a typical bitrate for the chosen type, such as 192 kbps for MP3. The real file can differ, most of all for FLAC.

Can I type exact start and end times?

There are no time fields, but each handle moves in tenths of a second with Shift and the arrow keys, and shows its time as you go. Dragging is finer in a wider browser window, which spreads the recording across more pixels.

Where does the saved file go?

Browsers with a save picker let you choose a folder and name. Others download it to your default downloads location.
