What Sprite Sheet Converter does

Sprite Sheet Converter turns an animated GIF into a grid PNG plus JSON frame data (as a zip), or cuts a sprite sheet back into a looping GIF. It is meant for game and UI work where you need a sheet or want to preview a sheet as an animation.

How to use it

  1. Choose GIF to sprite sheet or Sprite sheet to GIF.
  2. Select Choose GIF or Choose sprite sheet and pick a file, or drop one on the file row.
  3. For a GIF: set columns and padding, check the sheet preview, then Download ZIP.
  4. For a sheet: set rows, columns, optional frame size, padding, and delay, check the live GIF preview, then Download GIF.

Formats and limits

  • GIF to sheet: input one GIF. Output a zip with a PNG grid and a JSON file of frame rectangles and delays, named like clip-sprites.zip.
  • Sheet to GIF: input one PNG, JPG, WEBP, or GIF image used as a sheet. Output one GIF named like sheet-animated.gif.

Settings explained

Columns and rows
GIF to sheet packs frames left to right, then down. Sheet to GIF reads the same order. Frame width and height of 0 divide the sheet evenly using columns, rows, and padding.
Padding
Empty pixels between cells only. The outer edge of the sheet has no extra padding.
Delay
Sheet to GIF uses one delay for every frame. GIF to sheet keeps each frame delay in the JSON file.

Privacy

Decoding, packing, encoding, and zip building all run in this tab. Nothing is uploaded.

FAQ

What is in the JSON file?

Frame width and height, columns, rows, padding, play count, and each frame index with x, y, size, and delay in milliseconds.

Why does my sheet GIF look wrong?

Check columns, rows, and padding match how the sheet was packed. Use frame width and height when cells are not an even split of the image.
