What GIF Background Remover does

GIF Background Remover clears or replaces the background of an animated GIF. Color pick mode matches a clicked color (everywhere or only the connected area). Subject mode finds people with the on-device segmentation model.

How to use it

  1. Select Choose GIF and pick a .gif.
  2. Color mode: click the preview to pick a background color, set tolerance, and choose every match or only the clicked area.
  3. Subject mode: select Detect subject on the current frame, then Apply to GIF.
  4. Choose transparent with a matte, a solid fill, or a replacement image.
  5. Select Download when the preview looks right.

Formats and limits

  • Input: one GIF file.
  • Output: one GIF named after the source with -no-bg.
  • Transparent mode uses GIF binary transparency with an optional matte color.

Settings explained

Color pick
Tolerance widens how close a pixel must be to the picked color. Connected mode only removes the region linked to the click.
Subject mode
People uses the selfie segmenter. General subjects uses DeepLab-v3. Detect updates the current frame preview. Apply runs every frame with progress and cancel.
Replacement
Transparent + matte clears the background. Solid color or a replacement image fill the removed area instead.

FAQ

Why are edges hard?

GIF transparency is on or off per pixel. The matte color fills removed pixels before they go clear, which reduces fringe colors.
