GIF Distortion and Artistic Effects

Bend, twist, and restyle every frame of an animated GIF with distortions and artistic effects.

Add wave, ripple, swirl, bulge, pinch, fisheye, mirror, kaleidoscope, and shake, or restyle with halftone, sketch, oil paint, cartoon, mosaic, CRT scanlines, VHS, and RGB split glitch. Animated effects change from frame to frame. The preview plays live, and the download keeps every delay.

What GIF Distortion and Artistic Effects does

GIF Distortion and Artistic Effects bends and restyles every frame of an animated GIF. Distortions move pixels: wave, ripple, swirl, bulge, pinch, fisheye, mirror, kaleidoscope, and shake. Artistic looks restyle the picture: halftone, sketch, oil paint, cartoon, mosaic, CRT scanlines, VHS, and RGB split glitch.

Turn on as many effects as you like and they stack in a set order: distortions first, then artistic. Effects that can animate (wave, ripple, shake, VHS, and glitch) change from frame to frame, so they also work on a GIF with very little motion. The preview plays the result live.

How to use it

  1. Select Choose GIF and pick a .gif, or drop one on the file row.
  2. Pick a preset such as Liquid or Retro TV, or tick the effects you want.
  3. Adjust each effect that is on with its sliders and options.
  4. Watch the preview, then select Download GIF. The effects are applied to every frame in the background, then the GIF is encoded.

Formats and limits

  • Input: one GIF file.
  • Output: a GIF named after the original with -distorted added, such as cat-distorted.gif. Frames, delays, and the loop count are kept.
  • Each frame holds up to 256 colors, so strong warps and gradients may show some banding.
  • Transparent areas stay transparent where the effect can keep them.

Settings explained

Presets
Liquid, Funhouse, Kaleido, Comic ink, Retro TV, Glitch art, and Painterly each turn on a few effects with set values and turn the rest off. No effects turns everything off. You can adjust any value afterwards.
Wave, Ripple, Swirl, Bulge, Pinch, and Fisheye
Each has an amount from 0 to 100%. Wave also has Frequency. Wave and Ripple shift with each frame so the motion loops with the GIF.
Mirror and Kaleidoscope
Mirror reflects across Horizontal, Vertical, or Both axes. Kaleidoscope folds the picture into 2 to 16 segments.
Shake
Offsets each frame by a small random amount so still GIFs look shaky. The same seed is used for the preview and the download.
Halftone, Sketch, Oil paint, Cartoon, and Mosaic
Halftone draws ink dots. Sketch looks like a pencil drawing. Oil paint smooths neighborhoods into paint dabs. Cartoon flattens colors and darkens edges. Mosaic draws large color blocks.
CRT scanlines, VHS, and RGB split glitch
CRT darkens every other line with a slight RGB triad. VHS adds wobble, bleed, and tracking noise that changes per frame. Glitch offsets the red and blue channels and can slice rows, also changing per frame.

Privacy

The preview applies effects to each frame in this tab as it plays. When you download, every frame is processed and the GIF is encoded in Web Workers, background threads of the same page. Nothing is uploaded.

FAQ

Why does a still GIF look animated after I add Wave or Glitch?

Those effects use the frame number and loop time, so they change even when the original pixels do not.

Can I change the order of the effects?

No, they always run in the set order shown, so the same settings always give the same result.

Is Oil paint slow on large GIFs?

It looks at a neighborhood around every pixel, so big frames take longer. The download runs in a background worker so the page stays responsive.
