Frequently asked questions

Not sure which tool you need, or how the tools handle your files? The answers are below. If your question is not here, the About page has my contact details.

Which tool do I need?

Find the line that sounds like your problem.

Common questions

Does it cost anything?

No. The tools are free to use.

Are my files uploaded anywhere?

No. The tools read the file from your device and do the work in the browser tab. The only thing some of them download is the FFmpeg engine, which is program code and not your data. It comes from the jsDelivr CDN, or from this site if the CDN cannot be reached.

Do I need an account?

No. Every tool on the site works without signing in.

Is there a file size limit?

There is no fixed limit. The file does have to fit in the memory your browser can use, so a very large video may fail on a phone or an older computer and still work fine on a newer one.

What happens to my file when I am done?

It stays in the memory of the tab until you select Clear or close the tab, and then it is gone. Your original file is never changed. You always save the result as a new file.

Why is the first run of some tools slower?

Tools that use FFmpeg have to download its engine the first time you use them. After it has loaded, the time a job takes depends on the size of the file and the speed of your device.

Who makes this site?

I do. I'm Cody Tolene, a software engineer in Wisconsin, and I build and run Lambda Guru on my own. If a tool breaks, or there is one you wish existed, the About page has more about me and how to get in touch.
